Luna is the sweetest 2 year old Italian Greyhound.  Her owners contacted us after Luna fractured the radius and ulna of her right foreleg.  Surgical repair was recommended by the owners regular veterinary practice, but they were unable to perform the surgery themselves and therefore recommended referral.  The clients had been advised by another referral centre to amputate Luna’s leg but desperately wanted to repair if they could find someone to perform the surgery, therefore they contacted us and visited Martin Hobbs for assessment.

After discussion with Luna’s owners, surgery was scheduled and a plan was made.  The procedure was performed by Martin Hobbs and Penny Barnard-Brown, a 2mm T plate was screwed into place after the bones were aligned.  Post-operative radiographs revealed good fracture alignment and a supportive dressing was placed.

Luna was kept hospitalised with us in order to keep her on pain relief.  By 48 hours post op she was eating well, bright and walking around well therefore her dressing was removed and she was discharged home to her owners for strict rest until her re-examination appointment.

Luna has since visited us twice for follow up radiographs in order for us to ensure the bones are healing as we would wish, her owners were over the moon when we could finally give them the news that Luna was completely healed and can once again exercise as normal after her surgery.

Below is a slide show of images of Luna, she was so photogenic we took a few!  The first two radiographs are showing the fracture on presentation and then immediately post op.

Further through the slide show are her radiographs 13 week post operatively.
